the practice of parenting

Seven years ago today, New Year’s Day, on 1/1 at 11:11 am, my son Gabriel was born.

Until that day, I never understood how immense our small universe could become.  Until then, I never knew how big my heart was.

You often hear people say that having a child changes your life.  And I thought, duh, of course it does…

I had no idea.

Becoming a parent was the beginning of a journey for me, back to my Self.

You’ve heard me say that I always knew I wanted to parent with intention.  I was on a mission to find my right parenting path.  I read books (Adele Faber, Naomi Aldort, Magda Gerber, Rudolph Dreikurs…) and then I began working with Vicki Hoefle, a parenting coach here in Vermont.

The greatest gift I received from working with Vicki, was perspective.

Something about the timing was right.  My heart had been opened and a teacher appeared.  In doing the work, I was able to take a step back from myself and my reactions as a parent, and question everything.  It was completely transformational.

I continued to go deeper, seeking other teachers, finding myself on what can only be called a spiritual path, through parenting.

How incredible, that my priority of being an intentional parent could become my spiritual practice!  Seriously, it’s a gift of the highest magnitude.

And, turns out, it’s my gift to share as well.

I am honored to listen, question, dig deep, and reflect with parents, while at the same time bringing focus to the daily practice of parenting.

All the opinions you hear about the ‘right’ way to parent can be pretty overwhelming.  I have found that while bits and pieces of what I’ve learned from others are helpful, the way I feel right in parenting has been through creating a practice, tailored to me and each of my children.

I’d love to help you discover your right parenting path as well.  If you’re curious about what that might look like, drop me a line, and let’s have a heart-to-heart.

Gratitude and love to you, as we journey into 2013.
